Rome [ENA] Since its latest enlargements, the EU has a clear interest in maintaining good neighbourly relations with the countries situated on its Eastern flank. For this reason, the EU is collaborating with its six Eastern Partners to support European integration reforms and foster stability, security, democracy and prosperity across the continent. The Eastern Partnership (EaP) is based on a shared commitment between Armenia,

Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the European Union to develop their relations and stick to international law and core values such as democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, the rule of law, the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, and a social market economy, sustainable development and good governance. Cooperation between the EU and all EaP countries can be achieved and maintained only in so far as those core values and principles are respected and certain EaP countries have chosen to pursue a closer political, human and economic integration with the EU by concluding ambitious Association Agreements (AAs), as well as visa-free regimes.

TAP

In 2019 has been celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Neighbourhood policy. That reinforced efforts to deepen and strengthen relations between the EU, its Member States and its Eastern Partners. Truly, collective efforts have brought considerable benefits to the citizens of these countries, especially of the ones that have signed Association Agreements, - including more trade, mobility, increased economic development and a better quality of life. An interesting development project is the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project . At the end of April 2020, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project was 95.1 percent completed - the TAP AG consortium reports.

TAP is currently moving further into the project construction phase. Every day hundreds of meters of TAP’s Right of Way (ROW) are cleared, strung, welded, lowered into the trenches and backfilled, in line with the project construction steps and schedule. At the end of April 2020, the TAP project was 95.1 percent completed . TAP project, worth 4.5 billion euros, is one of the priority energy projects for the European Union (EU). The project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz Stage 2 to the EU countries.

Connecting with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Greek-Turkish border, TAP will cross Northern Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea before coming ashore in Southern Italy to connect to the Italian natural gas network. The project is currently in its construction phase, which started in 2016. TAP shareholders include BP (20 percent), SOCAR (20 percent), Snam S.p.A. (20 percent), Fluxys (19 percent), Enagás (16 percent) and Axpo (5 percent). Over the last ten years, the Eastern Partnership has been a remarkably successful EU initiative. Its transformational power led to political, social, economic and legal changes in most of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries that would have been unthinkable in its absence.

Furthermore, it offered a coherent and practical framework for individuals, NGOs and civil society organisations in the countries that decided to pursue a looser relationship with the EU. In these challenging times, however, there’s the necessity of an upgraded and future-oriented vision for the Eastern Partnership for the next decade that will safeguard its achievements are stable and irreversible, while leading to deeper EU-EaP integration. With that in mind, it is important to get a communication's holistic technique in order to increase joint ownership, establish a reinforced and strong-minded reform agenda, tackle joint challenges together, with the preeminent objective of strengthening resilience.

There’s the EU will to act more effectively as a driver towards improved democratic accountability, better economic governance, more inclusive and sustainable economic development and strengthened citizens’ rights. Interesting is to point out the setting up of the Euronest PA on 3 May 2011 in Brussels when the Presidents (or their representatives) of the Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Moldovan, Ukrainian and European Parliaments signed the Assembly's Constitutive Act.

The mission of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is to promote the conditions necessary to accelerate political association and further economic integration between the European Union and the Eastern European Partners, as well as to strengthen cooperation within the region and between the region and the EU. The multi-lateral Assembly contributes to strengthening, developing and making visible the Eastern Partnership.
